Classroom Rules and Guidelines:
In addition to following all guidelines outlined in the student handbook, students must adhere to the following procedures.
It is my responsibility to help students to make better choices and decisions, so the following broad rules should be followed while inside Mr. Gonzalez’s room.
  • Respect the school – this includes administration, equipment, and/or any other item that is tied directly to the Godley Independent School District.
  • Respect your peers – this includes all of your fellow students and anyone else you may come in contact with while in the classroom.  This rule applies for face to face peers as well as those you contact through any electronic means.
  • Respect yourself – you may accomplish this by always applying yourself to the best of your ability and not giving up when difficulties arise.

Guidelines for Student Behavior
  • You may engage in any behavior that does not create a problem for you or anyone else in the world.
  • If you find yourself with a problem, you may solve it by any means that does not cause a problem for anyone else in the world.
  • You may engage in any behavior that does not jeopardize the safety or learning of yourself or others.
  • Unkind words (cursing) and actions (being hateful) will not be tolerated.

IN ADDITION TO FOLLOWING ALL GUIDELINES OUTLINED IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK, STUDENTS MUST ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES.

  • Students will be counted tardy if they are not in the classroom when the bell rings.
  • Phone/electronic devices:    Students may only use electronic devices when directed to by Mr. Gonzalez.  All phones must be silenced and put away prior to enterring the class room.
  • Lab Safety is paramount - any unsafe behavior while conducting a lab will result in an automatic office referral.  All students must sign a lab safety contract prior to participating in any labs.
  • Any substitute teacher should be respected and all regular class rules followed while Mr. Gonzalez is not in the classroom.

GOLD CARDS and OFFICE REFERRALS will be administered if a student chooses to break any rules while in Mr. Gonzalez’s class.

Procedures
Daily classroom procedures (sharpening pencils, talking, bathroom breaks, group work) will be outlined the first week of class and are expected to be followed daily.

Make-up Work:
Daily work will always be posted on the class blog so any student that misses class can keep up to date on what work is being done while they are away.
  1. Students with excused absences will have the number of days absent, plus one day, to finish make-up work.  There will be many opportunities to turn in work digitally if needed.
  2. Long term assignments or projects which are assigned well before the absence may be due upon return.
  3. It is the student’s responsibility to get make-up work from the teacher after class.  Most of the time the work will be available online to print.

Guidelines for Mr. Gonzalez
  1. I will react without anger or haste to problem situations.
  2. I will provide consequences that are not punitive but that allow the student to experience the results of a poor choice, enabling him or her to make better choices in the future.
  3. I will proceed in all situations with the best interest of the student foremost in my mind—academic, social, and emotional well-being will be fostered.
  4. I will guide students toward personal responsibility and the decision-making skills they will need to function in the real world.
  5. I will arrange consequences for problem situations in such a way that the student will not be humiliated or demeaned.
  6. Fair does not always mean equal.  Consequences will be designed to fit the problems of individual students, and they may be different even when problems appear to be the same.
  7. I will make every effort to ensure that, in each situation, the students involved understand why they are involved in the consequences.
  8. If I at any time act or react in a way that the student truly feels is unjust, that student need only say to me, “I’m not sure that is fair.”  I will arrange a private conference during which the student can express to me why he or she feels my actions were not fair.  This may or may not change my course of action.  I am always open to calm, rational discussion of any matter.

Grading Procedures:  Each student’s grade will be determined as follows:

Major Grades (tests, quizzes, projects)                       60%
Minor Grades (daily work, homework, labs)                 40%

Contact Information:  I look forward to working with each of you this year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.  You may email me or call the school to leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I can.
